Ametrine is a rare and charming type of Quartz that is a natural combination of Citrine and Amethyst. The two crystals are usually distinguished into separate color zones within a single specimen. Different colors are due to different oxidation of iron. And the different oxidation is due to temperature gradation in the time of crystal formation. Thus, a stone can be half purple and half yellow or orange.
